iPad Apps Exceed 100,000 Apps

Within 453 days since the release of the first iPad...Apple and its App Store developers created another milestone by exceeding more than 100,000 Apps specifically developed for the iPad.
Impressive. Period.

Digits Calculator - App Review & FREE TODAY

Download in iTunes

Available for iPad and iPhone

This App is fantastic!  A lot of great features!!!

Pros

  • So many features!!
    • You have the ability to do a lot of calculations with the ability to email the numbers to yourself and export them into Excel.
    • Grand Total feature from previous calculations
    • Ability to label calculations
    • Tape browser allows you to rename a Tape of calculations
    • Expenses and Budgets are great to work on here!
  • FREE
  • Works on both iPad and iPhone
Cons

  • The UI Design is off the mark.
    • The bright yellow makes it difficult to stare at.  A better color scheme should have been used.  UPDATE!  You can change the color settings!  Just go to the 'i' in the lower right hand corner and you can reduce the brightness setting and get Black with Gray.  Perfect!!  No longer a CON!

Scanner Pro App Review

This App is NOT worth the $6.99 price tag!!!  I do not recommend this App!!!

Pros

  • This has potential if you do not need high quality documents.
  • There are a lot of features.  You can Send To:
    • iDisk
    • Dropbox
    • Everynote
    • Google Docs
    • Email
    • Print
    • Fax
    • Add Password
    • Open in iBooks or Dropbox
  • Intuitive
Cons

  • $6.99 is far too much money for this App.  BIG WASTE OF MONEY!
  • The Quality of the PDF and image is HORRIBLE.  I tested this out on multiple documents, changed the settings and tried every tweak and setting to get a higher quality document.  In some cases they were absolutely unreadable.
  • Could not navigate to additional pages when viewing on iPad and iPhone.  Multiple page views work on a PC.
    • Multiple Page view did not work in Dropbox or Quickoffice
  • The reviews on the App in iTunes are shining reviews.  There were very positive articles about this.  Very deceiving and certainly biased based on what I was able to produce from the App.

iOS 5 - Beta 2 - Tips to Install and What's New

This is a little late in review, as the second beta was released on Friday.  I was one that experienced some of the issues on getting the iOS 5 Beta 2 installed correctly the first time.  It is a Beta, so I certainly understand and expect issues.  For those that are having issues here are some tips that I learned.

Hints for installing the new Beta 2:
FIRST AND FOREMOST: Download the latest version of iTunes made available in the Developer site.  This must be done before downloading the Beta 2.
Once this has been done, Sync and Backup your phone.
Then install the Beta 2 and sync.
My phone reverted back to 4.3.3.  In order to fix this, I had to go into iTunes, And 'Option' Click on the Restore Button and locate the iOS 5 Beta 2 file to manually restore the phone.  Worked like a charm.
I followed that same process for my iPad.

What's New in Beta 2

Notifications have a new design.  They are aesthetically pleasing.  The below shows choices you now have to set up the Notifications and what a notification looks like.

iCloud has a new icon.

Backup to the Cloud in Setup.  You have the option when the phone starts to Backup to iCloud but there is an additional step.  You need to go to Settings to get this option enabled.  Just a small difference but provides the anticipation for iCloud and being PC Free.
WiFi Sync now works.  It was available with the first release but now it actually works.
Over the Air Updates.  While this is said to be available, I have had some difficulties but it is still relatively new, so it could be working.

I look forward to future releases and getting my Apple TV tomorrow to start testing out iOS 5 with that device!

iOS 5 - It Just Keeps Getting Better - iPad and iCloud

I installed iOS 5 for my iPad 2 today...and I am overwhelmed by its AMAZINGNESS!!!  It doesn't cease to amaze me all the convenience features that are delivered through iCloud and iPad specific features.

If I had to pick a favorite, I would say the Split keyboard is at the top of that list!!!  I am a Thumb Typer on my iPhone and this feature does not disappoint!  It will now make the on screen keyboard much more user friendly!!  LOVE IT!!

Photo Stream is awesome!!  Literally, within seconds of taking an image on one device, it is automatically available on the next device!!  This is phenomenal.  Having the ability to have access to the pictures without having to sync to iTunes or mix and match on the devices, save to Dropbox, email, etc.  Convenience and Brilliance at its best.

Of course, the texting feature being available is awesome, as well as the Notifications menu.  I have just started scratching the surface...but am in complete awe!!  I watched the Keynote online again last night and it is amazing how much information was in that presentation and all the wonderful things to expect!!

iOS 5 Preview

Since installing the iOS5 Beta that was released at WWDC...I am in LOVE.  As Apple does, they thought of everything that makes the device unique.  As a common theme in many of the sessions, Apps should be designed to make the user experience Simple, Quick and Reliable.  True to form, these enhancements exceed expectations and only increase my loyalty to the product.  Here are some previews from my phone:

Notifications are now easily accessible.  In iOS 5, any notification will now be available to deal with later.  The notifications no longer intrude on what you are working on at that point in time.  You now have the convenience to deal with it when you want and on your own time.  If you are playing a game and get a push notification or text, it will slide down and alert you...but you can continue what you are doing and access it later.  You also have the ability to navigate directly there.

Photo on the home screen.  I absolutely HEART this feature!!!  Have you ever wanted to take a picture and by the time you unlock the phone and get to the camera App, you've missed your opportunity?  That is no longer an issue.  You can now immediately access the camera App on the Lock screen without having to enter in the passcode and touch on the camera.  And, as always, security is bundled in.  If someone gets your phone, they can take a picture, but they will not have the ability to get into any other Apps or view any other pictures.  Security and Convenience...Brilliant.

Look for more reviews and posts in the coming week once I let the week of WWDC absorb :)!
